Raw Honey for Allergies
Friday Sep 14, 2018
Friday Sep 14, 2018
For seasonal allergies raw local honey is at the top of my list. In a randomized controlled study published in the International Archives of Allergy and Immunology, patients that consumed honey had significantly better control of their allergy symptoms than those on conventional allergy medications. Local honey works to relieve symptoms because it contains local pollen that is causing your allergies. A couple of tablespoons each day can relieve your itchy, watery eyes, congestion and the general symptoms of hay fever.
Listen in for why it has to not only be local and raw but also seasonal!

Stay Hydrated for Allergy Season
Wednesday Sep 12, 2018
Wednesday Sep 12, 2018
Do you know most of us walk around chronically dehydrated? It's super important to stay hydrated when you are suffering with allergies so that you can continually flush your system of allergens.
Clean, pure, filtered water is a great choice.
Another is hot green tea. The steam from the tea can help to open sinus passages and the antioxidants in the tea, especially the EGCG, blocks the production of naturally-produced chemicals like histamine and igE.
Remember, best to avoid dairy products while you are congested because they just create more mucus.

Halotherapy for Fall Allergies
Tuesday Sep 11, 2018
Tuesday Sep 11, 2018
We talked about this therapy last week, Halotherapy is an excellent therapy for the treatment of any sort of upper respiratory aggravation, especially allergies.
In a Halotherapy room, a salt vaporizer pumps dry aerosol salt vapor into the air, so you can breathe it a bit deeper into your lungs. This process supports and strengthens the body’s immune system by eliminating toxins and allergens that are trapped within the mucus lining of the respiratory system.
Listen in for more on my experience with Halotherapy.

Probiotics for Fall Allergies
Monday Sep 10, 2018
Monday Sep 10, 2018
If you suffer from the wide array of seasonal allergy symptoms such as fatigue; sinus congestion; itchy eyes, nose or throat; or watery eyes, don’t let a high pollen count get you down this season.
Research shows that almost 75 percent of people in the United States who suffer from seasonal allergies are allergic to ragweed. Unlike grass, trees and flower that produce pollen in the spring and summer, pollen due to ragweed is often highest during the fall.
You might consider taking a probiotic supplement as research shows that certain probiotics were effective in the treatment of nasal and sinus symptoms linked to allergies.
Listen in for more.
THe probiotic supplement we like is VSL#3 - you can find it on Amazon here: http://bit.ly/GuudVSL3

Floatation Therapy
Saturday Sep 08, 2018
Saturday Sep 08, 2018
Imagine feeling almost weightless, surround by warm water loaded with epsom salts and dim lighting. That's floatation therapy.
Some of the anti-gravity benefits are decompression of the spine, elimination of pressure points on the body, and more efficient blood flow which produces natural dopamine levels and lowers cortisol. Once comfortably relaxed in the water, the sensation of where the water begins and your body ends are integrated into one, leaving you feeling euphoric.
Google "floatation therapy" to see if it is offered at a Wellness Center near you.

Halotherapy
Wednesday Sep 05, 2018
Wednesday Sep 05, 2018
The term “Halotherapy” comes from “halo”, the Greek word for salt. Simply put, Halotherapy is the use of salt vapor to treat respiratory ailments, skin irritations, and combat mental lethargy.
For centuries, monks used naturally-occurring salt caverns to treat respiratory ailments. Today, manmade Saltrooms recreate salt caverns, with one huge improvement over nature: in a Halotherapy room, a salt vaporizer pumps dry aerosol salt vapor into the air, so you can breathe it deep into your lungs.
Listen in to hear my experience with Halotherapy.

Cryotherapy, new on the wellness scene, is essentailly freezing your body for 3 minutes in a chamber filled with liquid nitrogen. It is said to boost your body’s natural healing abilities, reduce swelling, inflammation, and joint and muscle pain; increase your metabolism; reduce cellulite; speed muscle recovery; and much more. Just one session of cryotherapy can burn between 500 and 800 calories and boosts your metabolism hours after the treatment is over.

Happy Labor Day
Monday Sep 03, 2018
Monday Sep 03, 2018
Happy Labor Day. Hope everyone is enjoying this day with friends and family. We are headed to a BBQ with friends. I wanted to use this opportunity to remind you to make healthy choices today. If you are attending a BBQ please consider bringing a salad or vegetable side dish to share. Remember also to make smart choices when consuming alcohol. A vodka and soda has many less carbs and much less calories than a drink mixed with juice or soda. (Remember that tonic water contains as much sugar as a soda!)
Wellness is a continuum and we need to make better choices and simple changes ON THE DAILY to see the results and feel our best.
Enjoy the day!

The Mediterranean Diet
Sunday Sep 02, 2018
Sunday Sep 02, 2018
The concept of the Mediterranean Diet has been around since the 1940's when a doctor named Ancel Keys noted the low disease rate of the Mediterranean people during his tour with the US Army. Post-War, Keys began a study called the Seven Countries Study. He found that people who adhered to the Traditional diet of fish, red wine, grains, vegetables and olive oil and exercised regularly lived longer than those who ate less healthy diets and did not exercise. Sounds like a no-brainer right?
Listen in and see if this diet has concepts that might work for you.

The Ketogenic Diet
Saturday Sep 01, 2018
Saturday Sep 01, 2018
On a Ketogenic Diet, your entire body switches its fuel supply to run almost entirely on fat. By limiting carbohydtrates your Insulin level becomes very low, and fat burning increases dramatically. Your body has no choice but to burn your stored body fat as fuel This is great if you’re trying to lose weight, but there are also other less obvious benefits, such as less hunger and a steady supply of energy, keeping you alert and focused.
Listen in for more on the Keto Diet.

The Paleo Diet
Friday Aug 31, 2018
Friday Aug 31, 2018
The Paleolithic Diet or Paleo is pretty straight forward. If a caveman didn’t eat it, neither should you.
When you follow the Paleo Diet, you can eat anything you could hunt or gather way back in the day – things like meat, fish, nuts, leafy greens, local/seasonal veggies, and seeds. Anything that didn’t exist in caveman times will not make it to your plate or stomach.
Many people involved in the Cross Fit program have adopted a Paleo lifestyle.
Paleo pioneer Melissa Hartwig has lots of great cookbooks. You can find a great book called the Whole 30 here on our Amazon store: www.theguudcompany.com/shop
It's a great idea to give this diet a try for 30 days. I have many friends who have tried a "Whole 30" program which is following the tenents of this diet very strictly for 30 days. You might give it a try and see how you feel.

The Vegan Diet
Thursday Aug 30, 2018
Thursday Aug 30, 2018
Sister diet of the Vegetarian Diet, a Vegan avoids all animal products in the diet including meat, fish, fowl, dairy and eggs. Many Vegans all eschew wearing animal products like fur and leather as well as avoid products that have been tested on animals.
One needs to be careful when adopting a strict vegan diet and make sure to get enough protein as well as a few specific supplements like Omega-3 fatty acids, Vitamin D3 with K2, B vitamins and possibly an iron supplement. Probably a good idea to talk to your health care provider bfore embarking on a vegan diet.

The Vegetarian Diet
Wednesday Aug 29, 2018
Wednesday Aug 29, 2018
No meat, chicken or fish...basically eating nothing that has a face. That's the basis for the Vegetarian diet. In stark contrast to the Standard American Diet, the Vegetarian diet in low in saturated fat, high in fiber, high in plant based foods. Good for people who have high cholesterol and cardiac disease.
You'll need a few specific supplements if you are a Vegetarian. Those can all be found on Amazon here: www.theguudcompany.com/shop and if you are looking for new vegetarian recipes look no further than https://www.yummly.com
Listen in and consider at least a few vegetarian meals a week.

The Standard American Diet...it's SAD
Tuesday Aug 28, 2018
Tuesday Aug 28, 2018
This week we will explore different dietary regimens and consider which one might be right for you. From Vegetarian to Paleo we will get into the ins and outs of each. I love author Michael Pollan's take on food when he says everything he's learned about food and health can be summed up in seven words: "Eat food, not too much, mostly plants."
For today, let's start by getting the processed foods out of our diets. Nothing in a bag or a box. Reach to the fridge instead and choose fresh fruit or yogurt, nuts or cheese instead of chips or cookies. Let's do this!!
