Mental Health Awareness Month: Make a list
Thursday May 16, 2019
Thursday May 16, 2019
If you suffer from the feeling of being overwhelmed, where you think there is too much to do and it's paralyzing. STOP.
First take a few deep breaths.
Then grab a pen and paper and brain dump. Make a list of all you have to do. You can group things as make sense. After you are done take another 3 breaths and read the list over. Try to add a few other tasks.
Depending on what's on your list you can either dig in or re-write your list in different groupings and then get started. Make sure to check off each item as you complete it.
It helps to be organized. It helps to have a plan. It's a great feeling of accomplishment to see how much you have done.
This list, should any items be incomplete, will simply move to the top of your list tomorrow.
One day at a time friends.

Mental Health Awareness: Be Present in the Present
Wednesday May 15, 2019
Wednesday May 15, 2019
Today I want to raise your awareness about living in the present.
We fret about the past and our actions, intentions, longings and decisions and that is depression.
We worry about tomorrow or the end some pre-selected date and that is anxiety.
I love talking about this because I love living it.
Be present. In the present.
Depression and anxiety have no home there.
Please listen. Then share.

Lyme Disease Awareness: Tick Tubes
Sunday May 12, 2019
Sunday May 12, 2019
Yesterday, we discussed prevention by treating both skin and clothing with repellents. Today, you can easily make tick tubes to keep the tick population low.
To do this: save your toilet paper rolls or paper towel rolls (just cut in half) and save your dryer lint or use cotton balls. Spray the lint/cotton balls with Permethrin and let dry for 24 hours. Please follow all directions on the bottle and as always, wash hands after handling any chemicals.
Once dry, fill the tubes with the lint/cotton and place in areas where you suspect mice activity. Wood piles, rock walls, under bushes, etc.
These can also be purchased premade on Amazon.
Stay safe friends!

Lyme Disease Awareness: Proper Testing
Thursday May 09, 2019
Thursday May 09, 2019
When you've been bitten by a tick, whether or not you have seen a rash, if you experience any symptoms in the days to weeks following the bite you'll need to be tested for Lyme Disease.
Your General Physician will most likely recommend a blood test through a company like LabCorp or Quest (here in the US) but these labs are only really 50% accurate reporting many false negatives you need a western blot test from a lab that specifically tests for Lyme and co-infections:
https://renaissance.stonybrookmedicine.edu/pathology/tick
Print out the test requisition test.
For the IGENEX Lab you'll need at minimum tests 188 &189 which are the Lyme IGG and IGM tests.
If your doctor won't sign the forms you'll need to find yourself a Lyme Literate Doctor and I'm going to share with you just how to find one tomorrow so tune in.

Lyme Disease Awareness: Rash or No Rash
Wednesday May 08, 2019
Wednesday May 08, 2019
Really important to know that not everyone who is bitten will develop a rash. A hallmark bulls eye rash should be taken very seriously and warrants immediate medical care and antibiotics. However, close to 60% of patients never remember seeing a rash. Many never recall seeing or being bitten by a tick.
This is how it was for me.
So please share that news with others. No rash doesn't mean you are in the clear.
I'd advise anyone getting a tick bite to see a doctor.

Lyme Week: The Basics
Monday May 06, 2019
Monday May 06, 2019
All week I'm talking about Lyme Disease...the fastest growing vector born disease in the US with over 300,000 cases to be diagnosed this year.
I was diagnosed in 2014 after being sick and undiagnosed (despite a week at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota) for 5 years.
Lyme Disease (not Lyme's) has been diagnosed in all 50 states in the US and in over 80 countries.
There is alot to learn this week so buckle up and take notes. If you or someone you know has had a myriad of misdiagnosed symptoms it could very well be Lyme Disease or one of the co-infections. Listen in all week as we take a deep dive into Lyme. And please share with loved ones. Awareness can lead to prevention or early treatment which is key to recovery.

Self Care Sunday - Say no the first time
Sunday May 05, 2019
Sunday May 05, 2019
I was listening to a podcast the other day and I can't remember who was talking but the message was around saying no the first time.
This resonated with me. How many times have I said maybe when I meant no? And how many times did I continue to weasel around with maybes before I closed the door with a firm no?
MORE TIMES THAN I'D LIKE TO ADMIT.
Listen in today for why a clean no or saying no the first time is your best bet and will save to time and energy in the long run.

Soulful Saturday: Mindless Doing
Saturday May 04, 2019
Saturday May 04, 2019
Happy Saturday - let's get soulful for a minute.
Today you could try something I call mindless doing. This is especially good for those of us who are generally "stressed out", frazzled or suffering from anxiety.
Pick one of the following activities and set aside 15-20 minutes : knitting, coloring, working on a jigsaw puzzle, gardening, walking in nature.
As you "work" let your mind wander. Let ideas and thoughts come and go. Don't fixate on any one thought in particular. Just be mindful of your thoughts.
It's best to do this in quiet. It's a fantastic break from any daily routine or to be able to tune out the world and turn inward for a little bit of time.

New Food Friday: Frozen Yogurt Tubes
Friday May 03, 2019
Friday May 03, 2019
Sometimes new foods aren't so foreign just packaged in a new way.
Something to try....freezing those tubes of yogurt makes an excellent after school snack or low sugar dessert for you or your kiddos.
We love the organic Stonyfield brand. These even can go into a lunch box as they should defrost by lunch time.
Also a great trick if they are expiring....freezing them will give you more time.

Tone Up Thursday: Consider your posture
Thursday May 02, 2019
Thursday May 02, 2019
Have you thought about your posture lately? Have you checked your car seat or your desk chair for ergonomics?
Having a strong core is the foundation for good posture. Proper sleeping habits, the right shoes and using props to support your lower back can all help you achieve your posture goals.
Also, looking downwards to check your phone places TONS of stress on your delicate neck vertebrae. Save your neck by simply lifting your phone in front of your face.
Listen in today and share with us on Facebook your favorite posture perfectors!

Wellness Warrior Challenge Wednesday: Be a KINDNESS warrior
Wednesday May 01, 2019
Wednesday May 01, 2019
What would the world look like if everyone was just a bit kinder to each other?
Today, let's start a kindness revolution. Greet others with a smile and a warm hello, hold doors, look people in the eye, ask with care, "How are you?" as if we really want to know the answer.
Remember that a kindness you share with another not only affects that person but will then effect that person's future actions. Kindness creates a ripple effect.
