Wednesday Oct 30, 2019
Wednesday Oct 30, 2019
I was going to do a full review on this book, just a brief synopsis I thought.
But this morning when I looked at my notes I panicked that I wouldn't have enough time to tell you all the things this book has to teach.
Topics like:
Sleep as recovery
Intermittent Fasting
Collagen supplements
Forest bathing and how nature heals
Dental Health
Ozone Therapy
and even extends a discount code to a company checking your microbiome. Thanks Dave!
A whole chapter on looking younger has me searching high and low for pharmaceutical grade methylene blue to add to my nightcream,
I'll be back tomorrow with more on this genius tome. Want a copy? Look here: http://bit.ly/GuudSuperHuman

From a place of gratitude shift your paradigm
Monday Oct 28, 2019
Monday Oct 28, 2019
It's a Monday and Monday can be a slog.
With a simple mind shift it can be much more enjoyable.
Instead of having to get up to make my kids breakfast and lunch - I approached it as a gift. How blessed I have the freedom and time to get up with them, nourish them and see them off to school. Even if I didn't have to do this each day, I do it because it is my privilege and my joy.
I am grateful that I have a refrigerator full of healthy food, ad more so, a roof over my head where my family can thrive.
I am grateful to have meaningful work that I can do each day that I can also do in sweatpants.
I am blessed to be healthy enough to have the option to exercise today.
I have family who love me for me, friends that listen when needed, dogs to remind me of what is important.
Today, I choose to be present. To listen with 100% when spoken to.
It's this little paradigm shift that will certainly make a difference in my day and also in the lives of those I touch.

Fuctional Foods - Coffee fruit and BDNF
Friday Oct 25, 2019
Friday Oct 25, 2019
A true superfood packed with antioxidants—due to concentrated polyphenols—coffee fruit has the power to boost the immune system, protect against free radicals and act as an anti-inflammatory.
It is considered a stone fruit much like mango or acai and it’s the red cherry colored flesh around the coffee seed or bean that has all of the magical properties.
Because coffee fruit skins ruin the taste of coffee, farmers have always thrown them away, putting them back into the ground to fertilize the soil.
It is said that the coffee fruit’s antioxidants improve cognitive function and mental clarity.
In fact, your brain needs a critical protein called brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) for healthy functioning. It supports your brain’s neurons so they can grow even faster, develop stronger connections, and stay healthy. It keeps your brain young!
BDNF is key for learning and memory. Research shows low levels of BDNF contribute to Alzheimer’s, accelerated aging, poor neural development, and many of today’s mental diseases associated with aging.
Dr David Perlmutter, one of the most cutting-edge neurologists of our time, found a study published in the British Journal of Nutrition where researchers administered a single 100mg dose of whole coffee fruit extract to a group of volunteers and observed a 143% increase in their blood values of BDNF.
So, how should we get a hold of this nutritional powerhouse? An easy way is the beverage BAI -you may have seen the commercials where Justin Timberlake talks about the Brasberry… BAI is a juice like beverage created from coffee fruit and naturally sweetened containing only 5 calories.
My kids love the Costa Rica Clementine flavor which has replaced orange Gatorade in our house. I prefer their Lemonade or Tanzania Lemon Tea.
You can purchase these at Whole Foods or Amazon and we are big fans not only for the taste but also for the health benefits. It’s a great low sugar beverage for the upcoming hot summer months…give it a try!

Functional Foods - Reishi Mushrooms
Thursday Oct 24, 2019
Thursday Oct 24, 2019
Reishi mushrooms are among several medicinal mushrooms that have been used for hundreds of years, mainly in Asian countries, for treatment of infections. More recently, they have also been used in the treatment of pulmonary diseases and cancer.
According to Dr OZ: they are frequently referred to as the “herb of immortality.” Because of Its dynamic antioxidant action and immune-stimulating effects Reishi are known to be antiviral, anti-inflammatory, antiparasitic, and anti-tumor. Reishi stabilizes blood pressure, protects the liver, and supports general immune resistance. This means that reishi is particularly useful for individuals with compromised immune systems
Mushrooms are adaptogenic in nature WHICH MEANS the benefits come from regulating the body's organs and functions.
Reishi contains over 200 active ingredients and unique compounds that are the most biologically active obtainable from any plant source.
In order to obtain maximum benefit, reishi is best taken as an extract because it is a very tough, woody mushroom and very difficult to digest.
Just a heads up because these mushrooms are fungi – if you have mold allergies or issues please talk to your doctor before taking this supplement

Functional Foods - Acai
Wednesday Oct 23, 2019
Wednesday Oct 23, 2019
Have you tried acai (pronounced ah-sigh-EE) berries? On their own they are very tart and you'll most likely have tried them in a bowl where they are sweetened with fruit juice and whipped into a yogurty texture.
If you are shopping for them you'll want to buy them frozen as they spoil very quickly or in a powdered form.
Some studies show that acai fruit pulp is even richer in antioxidants than cranberries, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, or blueberries. They are also rich in Omerga-3 fatty acids.

Functional Foods - Matcha
Tuesday Oct 22, 2019
Tuesday Oct 22, 2019
Have you tried Matcha? It's a finely ground green tea powder from the Tencha leaf. It's a powerhouse.
You can mix it with hot water which is the traditional way to prepare it. It's pretty bitter tasting.
The most popular was to drink it is in a latte. Starbucks makes one but it's pretty sweet. It's tastier with almond milk and has less sugar.
You can also add matcha powder to a smoothie to get it in there!
Benefits are great for lowering cholesterol, preventing heart disease, losing weight, and preventing diabetes.

Cold and Flu Prevention - Sleep is crucial
Friday Oct 18, 2019
Friday Oct 18, 2019
So important for immune modulation is sleep.
Good pre-sleep habits set the stage. Turn off electronics at least an hour before bed. Trying taking a bath or reading as a great pre-sleep ritual.
Waking each morning at the same time is a great habit. If you find yourself really sleeping in on the weekends it might mean you have a sleep deficit, and you can't make up for lost sleep.
Keep your body and your immune system strong with healthy sleep habits. At least 7 hours of sleep each night and try to get to bed at the same time each evening.

Cold and Flu Prevention: Vitamin D3+K2
Thursday Oct 17, 2019
Thursday Oct 17, 2019
Our bodies need adequate levels of Vitamin D to keep our immune systems functioning properly.
Best to ask your doctor for a Vitamin D blood test. Your level should be around 50. Most likely you will need to be supplementing to maintain this level.
Remember it's important to take Vitamin D3 with added K2 which is cardio protective.

Cold and Flu Prevention - Handwashing
Tuesday Oct 15, 2019
Tuesday Oct 15, 2019
A super simple, often overlooked way to prevent the transmission of disease is by handwashing.
Clean running water, soap, 20 seconds of lathering the fronts and backs of hands, in between fingers and under nails. Rinse with clean running water and be sure to dry well.
Always before food prep, before eating, when coming in from outdoors and before bed.
Seems simple but we rarely was as often as necessary.

Fall Allergies and Raw LOCAL Honey
Friday Oct 11, 2019
Friday Oct 11, 2019
Listen in today for fighting allergies with raw local honey. Please note that your honey has to be both raw (unpasteurized or heated - which kills the beneficial organisms) and local which means the pollens that are affecting you have been picked up by local bees who make this honey. Great in a cup of green tea which we talked about on Tuesday.

Allergies and the air you breathe
Thursday Oct 10, 2019
Thursday Oct 10, 2019
We talked about air filters and how it is important to change those frequently if you have environmental allergies.
It's also a great idea to buy a room air filter, one with HEPA technology, that will trap pollen and dust particles, that will make the air you breathe cleaner.
Also a great idea to see out a Himalayan salt room or cave, also known as halotherapy when you are congested. THere are products on the market that can mimic this effect that you can either use by mouth breathing through it or inhaling through your nose.
I love this pocked neti for when I am feeling head congestion: http://bit.ly/GuudPNETI
I also am a fan of this Mockins Salt Inhaler when a cough has settled in: http://bit.ly/SaltInhalerGuud
Lastly, would you consider leaving me a review on amazon for this Alexa skill? http://bit.ly/GuudBriefing It helps other people find us! THANKS!

Saturday Oct 05, 2019
Do you have an accountability partner?
When setting goals it's important to tell others and get their support. It's why AA and Weight Watchers work. It's why making an appointment with a trainer means you are more likely to get that work out in.
Today, consider your goals and how you are held accountable. Don't have a current accountability partner? It's time to find one!
