Breast Cancer and Genetic Testing
Wednesday Oct 03, 2018
Wednesday Oct 03, 2018
If people in your family have been diagnosed with Breast Cancer you might consider talking with your doctor about a simple genetic test that looks for mutations in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes.
Sometimes, changes in the BRCA genes occur that prevent them from functioning properly. These changes are called genetic variants or mutations. Variants in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes can be passed down through families, increasing the risk of developing certain cancers.
While it is true that having certain BRCA variants can increase a person's risk of developing cancer, most cases of breast, ovarian and prostate cancers aren't caused by inherited BRCA variants. And not every individual who inherits a BRCA variant will develop cancer.
Do your own research friends. Be your own advocate.

Know Thyself: Self-Checks for Breast Cancer

Be vigilant about breast cancer detection. If you notice any changes in your breasts, such as a new lump or skin changes especially if the skin changes to resemble orange peel, consult your doctor. Also, ask your doctor when to begin mammograms and other screenings based on your age and personal history. As an alternative to mammograms you can also investigate thermography.
Breast thermography is a painless and simple non-invasive, no-compression and radiation-free procedure that can alert your physician to health conditions that may indicate early stages of breast cancer or other disease. Breast thermography is FDA approved and has been shown to detect breast disease earlier than mammograms alone.

Avoiding BPA
Monday Oct 01, 2018
Monday Oct 01, 2018
BPA or bisphenol-A is found in hard plastics, the resins that line food cans, and cash register receipts.
BPA can act like a weak form of the hormone estrogen and turn on breast cell growth and trigger other unhealthy activities in your body. Significant BPA exposure has been linked to many illnesses, including heart disease, diabetes, immune- and nervous-system disorders, and brain, prostate, and breast cancer.
Avoid at all costs. Remember a stainless steel water body filled with filtered water is your best bet.
